So anyone who`s been taking a look at Chile and Salt knows I have a chile/salsa/hot sauce obsession or even addiction… In a good kind of way! It`s a rare event there`s not a bottle, jar or bowl gracing my a table at meal time, breakfast, lunch or dinner. Really, as the saying goes I put that s%&t on everything. That being said this simple man`s plan to better eating today is Hellfire Habanero Hot Sauce. A warning, this sauce is not for the timid, it`s hot! But, it brings so much more than just heat. It lends incredible flavor to compliment so many dishes. Of course tacos of any kind but use with eggs, potatoes, any meat or fish, add to beans, rice or vegetables for an extra kick, an awesome addition to your next Bloody Mary, the list is kind of endless. What`s better this hot sauce comes together in 15 minutes & will keep for months in your fridge. It`s just so good!
Here`s what you`ll need for your Hellfire Habanero Hot Sauce:
Orange Habanero Chiles- 6-8 stems removed
Apple- 1 peeled & chopped
Onion- 1/2 medium white onion chopped
Apple Cider Vinegar-1 cup
Garlic 5-6 cloves peeled
Sugar- 1 teaspoonThe stars of the show.
Peel & chop the apple & onion.
Add the habanero chiles, apple, onion & garlic to a sauce pan with the apple cider vinegar & 3/4 cup of water. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer & cook about 10 minutes.
The apple & onion will get really soft & the chiles will dull in color.
Add the contents of the sauce pan to a blender cup along with the salt & sugar. Blend until completely smooth. As always be really careful when blending anything hot. Don`t fill more than 1/2 full & be sure to remove the center piece of the top so the steam can release. It`s also a good idea to cover the lid with a kitchen towel. At this point you can just let it cool & refrigerate or return to your sauce pan & reduce a bit more if you want a thicker consistency.
Add your sauce to a jar or bottle & keep refrigerated until you need it. (Which will be often, I guaranty it!) It will keep up to 6 months.
Serve & enjoy your Hellfire Habanero Hot Sauce! It goes well with so many different things other than tacos but hey, tacos are their own food group in my house!
